MTD products are Microsoft Office applications for use on Microsoft Windows computers.
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 or 11. You must have the latest Service Pack of whichever version of Windows you have installed. All earlier versions of Windows are no longer supported by MTD software.
Computer Screen Size and Resolution: The computer you use to run Keystone, whether a laptop or a desktop, must have a screen size large enough to see the Keystone screens. The minimum resolution of your computer must be 1280 x 800. The first number is not critical, but the 800 resolution represents the vertical size and is essential. If your laptop vertical size is less than 800, you may have difficulty seeing the whole Keystone screen. It is possible to minimize the Keystone ribbon and the Windows taskbar to give you a bit more viewing area. These settings are described in Microsoft Help.
Processor and Memory: Your computer must at least be able to adequately run the version of Windows you are using. We strongly advise that you exceed the processor and memory requirements for your version of Windows if at all possible. We suggest a minimum of 4 GB of memory particularly if you are on a network with multiple computers.
Internet Access: A reliable Internet connection will allow you to download updates and other resources from the MoreThanData web site, receive more in-depth technical support and training, access the Keystone help library, renew your Keystone subscription, and participate in the MTD community.
Required Software:
Microsoft Office
Keystone is compatible with any 32-bit version of supported Microsoft Office Pro/365. Your Office suite must include Microsoft Access.
You can purchase Microsoft Office software for very minimal cost at TechSoup, an organization that helps nonprofits acquire software at significant discounts.
Microsoft Outlook is required to use the e-mailing functions in Keystone. You must use the Outlook program installed on your computer as part of Office and not the web browser-based version of Outlook. If you do not use Outlook for e-mail, you will not be able to e-mail Family Partners, Contacts, Donors, and Volunteers from within Keystone. You also will not be able to automatically send error and system information from within Keystone to MTD to help us solve your technical support problems.
QuickBooks Pro 2015 or higher (only required if you plan to use QuickBooks with Keystone). All Desktop versions of QuickBooks that are installed on your computer are included. Keystone to QuickBooks online is not allowed by QuickBooks.
Hard Drive Space: Affiliates’ databases vary significantly in size, but in general, 100MB is adequate for the Keystone program, related files, and an average affiliate database. However, if you use Keystone’s Document and Picture Management features, the size of your Keystone folders can grow significantly and require many times that amount of disk space, though this is unlikely to cause problems given the size of most hard drives. This is something to keep in mind, though, when you perform regular backups of your Keystone files and folders.
Optional Items
Some additional items, while not required, will significantly enhance the effectiveness of Keystone:
- A printer for printing reports, letters, labels, coupons, and receipts.
- Backup software and either an external hard disk drive, a writable CD or DVD drive, or a network storage device for backup purposes.
- It is strongly recommended that you perform regular backups of the Keystone data to safeguard it from loss or corruption due to hardware failure or virus attacks.
- Local Area Network hardware and software if Keystone is to be used over a network.
- A scanner for digitizing documents or pictures and a digital camera, if you plan to use Keystone’s Document and Picture Management tools. Some photocopiers and multi-function printers provide the ability to scan documents to PDF, the standard format for electronic documents. If you have one of these, check to see whether it has this option.
TechSoup – A Valuable Resource for Affordable Software
We encourage affiliates who need to upgrade their versions of Microsoft Windows or Office to use TechSoup, a nonprofit organization who assists qualifying nonprofits in obtaining software at substantially reduced prices. You can find them at http://www.techsoup.org.
