Skills/Interests Tab
You can record details of a volunteer's interests in working with your affiliate, the skills they can provide, and the times when they are available on the Skills/Interests tab on the Volunteer Information screen.
To enter a volunteer’s availability
Availability of a volunteer may be recorded in the Availability pane.
- Select the volunteer from the Name drop-down list on the Volunteer Information screen.
- Open the Skills/Interests tab.
- Set the volunteer’s availability for one or more days using the Monday-Sunday fields in the Availability pane.
For each day of the week, you can choose None, AM, PM, or AM&PM (all day). If there are two persons in the contact record, you will see a separate set of availability options for Person 2.
As these can also affect availability, the Retired check box indicates whether the volunteer is retired, and the Student check box indicates whether the volunteer is a student.
To record a volunteer’s skills and interests
Use the skills and interests list to record volunteer skills and interests. This located in the lower middle and right of the Skills/Interests tab.
You can record as many interests or skills as needed for the volunteer(s) shown in the Person 1, Person 2, and Organization fields.
- Select the volunteer from the Name drop-down list on the Volunteer Information screen.
- Open the Skills/Interests tab.
- Go to the new record line and enter the following for each skill or interest:
- The Contact field may be set to 1, 2, Both, or Org. Choose 1 if the skill or interest applies to Person 1 (as shown above this field); choose 2 if it applies to Person 2; choose Both if it applies to both Person 1 and 2; choose Org if it applies to the organization. Many contacts will not have two persons or an organization listed.
- Choose the skill or interest for the contact from the Skill/Interest drop-down list. You can customize this list to meet your affiliate's needs using the Volunteer Interests/Skills tab on the Affiliate Setup screen.
- Select more specific information (e.g., the skill level) about the skill or interest from the Attribute drop-down list, which is located above this pane. The Attribute column in the pane shows the attribute already selected for the listed skills and interests.
This list contains additional, pre-defined information about whichever skill or interest you selected above. You can customize the Attribute drop-down list using the Volunteer Interests/Skills tab on the Affiliate Setup screen.
- If you are entering several skills or interests for a contact at the same time, Keystone automatically fills in the attribute you used for the previous record. As a result, you can speed up your data entry if you enter together in a batch skills or interests that have the same attribute.
