Introduction to Covenant Partners and House Sponsorship
House sponsorship within Keystone is tracked via "covenant partnerships". Covenant Partners are contacts who sponsor or otherwise significantly contribute to the construction of specific homes built by your affiliate. A single covenant partner may sponsor more than one home; and houses may be sponsored by more than one covenant partner.
In order to track house sponsorship by organizations or major donors, you must first do several things:
- Assign each sponsor of the home to an appropriate Covenant Partners Category 1 on their Contacts record.
Verify that the category you assign matches the type of contact your covenant partner is (e.g., Individual, Church, Organization).
Only contacts designated as covenant partners are available on the Covenant Partners screen. Likewise, you can only post house sponsorship-related contributions for contacts designated as covenant partners. For more information about categories, see the Introduction to Categories section.
- You must also assign each covenant partner to an appropriate Donors category on their Contacts record. All covenant partners must also be donors in Keystone, but not all donors will be covenant partners.
Verify that the category you assign matches the type of contact your covenant partner is (e.g., Individual, Church, Organization).
You can only record donations for contacts designated as donors. For more information about categories, see the Introduction to Categories section.
- A Fundraising Activity (FRA) must be defined for each sponsor for each home they sponsor.
You must define an FRA in order to be able to mark donation records for the purpose of identifying that they go toward a house sponsorship, and to which house specifically it goes. This will allow the donations to be posted to the covenant partner, as well as to the home being sponsored.
When you create the FRA, generally you will designate this type as Covenant Partner. For more information on defining FRAs, refer to the Introduction to Fundraising Activities section.
- You must define a property address for the home to be sponsored.
Keystone will record donations toward the FRA you defined above without this address. As a result, you can defer entering the house’s address until you want to post the donation totals to the sponsored house, at which time it must be specified. For more information, see the Property Addresses section.
