Remote Data Sharing (RDS) is software that allows a copy of Keystone installed on a computer that does not have QuickBooks to use a copy of QuickBooks that is located on a different computer.
RDS enables Keystone to communicate with QuickBooks over a network, typically a local area network (LAN). RDS consists of RDS server software that is installed on the computer that runs QuickBooks, and RDS client software that is installed on the computers that do not have QuickBooks but want to use the Keystone/QuickBooks interface to do Direct Posting and data retrieval from your affiliate’s QuickBooks file.
The RDS Server Installer (RDSServer.exe), Client Installer (RDS30Client.exe), Server Help File (RDSServerHelp.chm), and Client Help File (RDSClientHelp.chm) are located in Keystone QuickBooks Setup file you can download from the MTD website.
Go to http://morethandata.org/product-downloads/, log in, and choose "Keystone QuickBooks Setup", and follow the instructions from there to download it and save it to your computer. Open this zip file you downloaded (the filename will end in QB_Setup.zip), go to the RDS Help files, and double-click them to learn more about these functions, how to install the RDS Server and Client software, and how to use this functionality.
The RDS Server Software should be installed before you install the RDS Client Software on any computers.
